AMERICA AT A CROSSROADS

Landmark Television Series Debuts April 15, 2007 with Additional Episodes Later in the Year and in 2008

The attacks of September 11, 2001, were a stunning shock and a watershed event for the United States, heralding an era of new engagement in the world that has spawned difficult and often controversial choices and decisions for Americans, their leaders and their allies. In the contemporary era, the rippling effects of 9/11 will long be felt at home and abroad.

A new television series, America at a Crossroads, presents a slate of independently crafted television documentaries that offer perspectives from a variety of viewpoints on the new world wrought by the 9/11 attacks, exploring causes and ramifications - and examining the challenges confronting the United States.

America at a Crossroads explores the challenges confronting the world post-9/11, including the war on terrorism; the conflicts in Iraq and Afghanistan; the experience of American troops; the struggle for balance within the Muslim world; and perspectives on America’s role globally. The series is scheduled to launch on Sunday, April 15, 2007 and will run through Friday, April 20, at 9 to 11 p.m. ET (check local listings).

Washington, D.C.-based WETA is the series producer for America at the Crossroads. The Corporation for Public Broadcasting (CPB) developed and funded the project in 2004. Since that time, WETA's team of producers traveled the globe to work with independent filmmakers and series advisors, manage content, and develop and shape the series.

Distinguished journalist Robert MacNeil hosts the series. Each night, MacNeil provides context to the compelling stories and provocative points of view presented in the broadcasts.
