Internet Delivery Specifications

NCI now accepts video programming for captioning services via the Internet. Digital media files can be delivered through NCI’s FTP site to eliminate the time delay and additional costs experienced with traditional mail delivery.

To send program materials via NCI’s FTP site, the following video and audio formats are required to accurately create closed captions and reduce file sizes for transmission. Some variances can be accommodated by NCI, however, sample files must be submitted and verified prior to the delivery of the program. Program materials must be submitted to NCI with a visible time-code matching the program master.

Video formats:

  • MPEG-1
  • 320 X 240 (NTSC)
  • 320 X 288 (PAL)
  • CBR 1150

Audio formats:

  • Sampling rate 44.1KHz (16-bit)
  • Audio bit rate 192

How do I send programming?

  • Log on to NCI’s FTP site using any FTP client software or Internet browser including Internet Explorer or Netscape Navigator at: ftp.ncicap.org
  • Click on the “Private” folder icon
  • When prompted, enter the user name and password information issued by NCI.
  • Locate and click on your private media folder from the full listing of private folders.
  • To upload your file, simply drag and drop your media file onto the folder page. Please name your file so that NCI can easily identify your captioning job.
  • Notify your NCI Marketing Representative once your digital media file has been uploaded.

Once received, the file will be transferred to NCI production staff to create the caption file.
