A. AUDIO

C. TESTING

Will the encoder be in use within 30 minutes of the start of the program(s) NCI is captioning?

When calling for a connectivity test, the captioner will give his/her emergency contact number. Please call the captioner directly if there’s a problem, as that is the quickest means of troubleshooting. If the captioner is not able to see the broadcast or has a significantly delayed visual feed, they may not immediately observe the issue that requires troubleshooting. If you are unable to reach the captioner, please call our 24/7 Technical Center at 214-657-4350.

If emergency coverage (which we describe as any programming within 24 hours of notification) is required, please call the 24/7 scheduling at 703-917-7640, provide your station’s call letters and city (or your organization’s name if you are not a broadcast TV client), and specify the times, subject, and duration for which coverage is needed.

Please provide the name(s) and e-mail address(es) of the person or people who will have access to Recapd. This is the streaming portal that stores your caption files and also allows you to embed the HTML code if you are going to use a webcast other than Facebook. Otherwise, Recapd will generate a URL for the event and that URL is what viewers will click on to see the captions on a standalone page on their computers or mobile devices.

PROGRAM SCHEDULING

Please place NCI-REALTIMESCHEDULING@NCICAP.ORG on your scheduling distribution list to reach all members of NCI’s scheduling team. Please include your station/organization’s name/call letters on the subject line of all correspondence.

Who is the contact in charge of sending schedules and notifying NCI of schedule changes?

How far in advance will NCI receive the schedule?

If applicable, what is your procedure regarding sports overruns? Is there a chance a newscast would be preempted if the overrun is lengthy?

Read-only access to the teleprompter can increase caption quality exponentially. For instance, breaking news occurs and only the reporter on scene has the correct spelling of the suspect’s name. May we have access to your electronic news production system?
