Overview of Testing

NCI’s standard testing procedure involves running a caption test 15 minutes prior to broadcast; the captioner leaves their direct business contact number with client's Point of Contact , and POC calls the captioner directly if there are issues. This direct contact is the quickest means of troubleshooting. We have several testing options; check the one that works best for you.

Standard Procedure: Captioner calls POC 15 minutes prior to the program start, and runs a captioning test ; POC confirms the test went through. Captioner leaves their number with Point of Contact.

Self Test: Captioner sends test captions to the Recapd encoder to ensure we are properly connected and captions are visible. This means no call from the captioner and client will have to contact our Scheduling department for captioner troubleshooting.

Email Checkin: Captioner emails at checkin in case client needs to send an API token or an updated link. This means client needs to be monitoring emails (some prefer this due to not being able to answer their phones as the meeting starts).

Will there be a tech support person on duty during events/meetings who can assist captioner with webcast issues or other technical troubleshooting?

Caption quality substantially increases proportionate to the amount of complete and specific prep you can provide. The captioner will access prep prior to the program. Please check all prep sources that you are able to provide:

A corresponding website/media site with prep info on individual shows

Prep materials emailed to NCI by your organization – e.g., names, vocabulary, scripts (we can set up a special email address for you to send prep)

A sharable link to prep materials (Google Doc, Dropbox, etc.) *Please ensure proper permissions are set so that captioners have access*
